1. Introduction
Welcome to Healing Horizons Therapy. These Terms and Conditions govern your use of services provided by Meredith Parent, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), through telehealth within the state of California.
By engaging in therapy services, you agree to the terms outlined below. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms and Conditions, do not use the services.
2. Therapist Credentials and Scope of Practice
Meredith Parent is licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) to provide psychotherapy services to clients physically located in the state of California.
License: LMFT #120718
Governing Body: California Board of Behavioral Sciences
Scope of Services: Individual adult therapy, specializing in trauma, anxiety, and emotional wellness, provided via secure telehealth platforms.
3. Telehealth Services
Healing Horizons Therapy operates exclusively through telehealth. Under California law (BPC § 2290.5), telehealth is a recognized and regulated mode of treatment.
By receiving services via telehealth, you acknowledge and agree that:
You are physically located in California at the time of each session.
You understand the potential benefits and limitations of receiving therapy via telehealth.
You consent to telehealth services and agree to the terms outlined in the Telehealth Informed Consent Form, which will be provided separately and must be signed prior to treatment.
4. Confidentiality and HIPAA Compliance
Healing Horizons Therapy complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and California confidentiality laws (e.g., CA Civil Code §56.10) to ensure your privacy.
Protected Health Information (PHI) is collected, stored, and transmitted securely using HIPAA-compliant software and electronic health record systems.
Sessions are not recorded without written client consent.
You have the right to request a copy of your records, with exceptions outlined by California law.
Exceptions to confidentiality include (but are not limited to):
Imminent risk of harm to self or others
Suspected child, dependent adult, or elder abuse
Legal subpoenas or court orders
As otherwise required by law
5. Fees, Payments, and Cancellations
Session fees are clearly disclosed prior to the start of therapy.
Payment is due at the time of service unless other arrangements are made.
Accepted payment methods include credit card and other digital payment platforms through HIPAA-compliant services.
Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations and missed appointments may be charged the full session fee.
6. Risks and Benefits of Therapy
Psychotherapy can lead to significant improvements in mental health, but outcomes cannot be guaranteed. Risks may include emotional discomfort as sensitive topics are addressed.
Clients are encouraged to communicate openly and honestly to maximize therapeutic benefit.
7. Client Responsibilities
You agree to:
Participate in therapy while physically present in California
Provide accurate information to the therapist
Refrain from engaging in sessions while impaired
Use a private, distraction-free space for sessions
Keep all login information for sessions confidential and secure
8. Technology and Service Disruptions
While all reasonable efforts are made to maintain a stable connection, telehealth is dependent on technology.
In the event of a disruption:
If connection is lost, Meredith will attempt to reconnect for up to 10 minutes.
If unable to reconnect, you will be contacted via your preferred backup method (e.g., phone or email) to reschedule.
9. Termination of Services
Either party may terminate therapy at any time. If it is determined that your needs would be better served by a different provider or higher level of care, referrals will be offered.
10. No Emergency Services
Healing Horizons Therapy does not provide crisis or emergency services.

11. Minors and Consent
At this time, Healing Horizons Therapy only provides services to individuals aged 18 and over. Clients must be legally able to consent to their own treatment.
12. Intellectual Property
All content on healinghorizonstherapy.com, including but not limited to written materials, handouts, and visual content, is the intellectual property of Meredith Parent and may not be copied or distributed without permission.
13. Changes to Terms
These Terms and Conditions may be updated periodically. Any changes will be posted on the website, and your continued use of services constitutes acceptance of those changes.
